A unique feature of the winery: All of Fuhrgassl-Huber’s vineyards are located within Vienna’s city limits. Approximately 14 hectares are cultivated on steep slopes, some with gradients exceeding 25%. Work in the vineyards is characterized by manual labor and a commitment to expressing the different vineyard sites and their characteristics as authentically as possible in the wine.
The focus is on the Wiener Gemischte Satz DAC—one of Vienna’s most important and distinctive wine traditions. This is not a single grape variety, but rather a blend of several different varieties that are planted, harvested, and vinified together in the vineyard. At Fuhrgassl-Huber, the Vienna Gemischte Satz holds a special place and accounts for a large portion of the vineyard’s total area.
The winery’s diverse vineyard sites are particularly fascinating. The Mitterberg vineyard, located directly above the winery, is the largest contiguous vineyard in Vienna, spanning nearly 14 hectares. Over the decades, an extraordinary variety of grape varieties has developed here. In addition, Fuhrgassl-Huber produces characterful single-vineyard wines that particularly clearly reflect the terroir of individual vineyards.
In addition to the Viennese Gemischter Satz, Grüner Veltliner, Riesling, Burgundy varieties, and Zweigelt are among the estate’s most important grape varieties. The wines range from classically fresh styles aged in stainless steel tanks to fuller-bodied single-vineyard wines aged in oak barrels. Traditional Viennese rarities such as Neuburger and Roter Muskateller also feature in the lineup.
At Fuhrgassl-Huber, the connection between wine and the Viennese way of life is evident not only in the vineyard. The Buschenschank in the heart of Neustift am Walde is also part of the estate and embodies Viennese Heurigen culture.
