Bastianich – Top wines from the heart of Friuli
The Bastianich family is known worldwide for exceptional cuisine and authentic Italian flavors. While many know Joe Bastianich as a restaurateur and wine expert, the true story of Bastianich wines begins in Friuli—one of Italy’s most renowned wine regions. There, in 1997, the family founded their own winery to combine their passion for great wines with the region’s finest vineyards.
The vineyards are located in the Colli Orientali del Friuli, a hilly landscape that has been known for centuries for its outstanding white wines. The combination of the mineral-rich Ponca soil, the cool winds from the Julian Alps, and the influence of the Adriatic Sea creates ideal conditions for elegant, fresh, and at the same time complex wines.
Bastianich cultivates approximately 27 hectares of its own vineyards across two distinct sites. While the warmer vineyards in Premariacco produce powerful and structured wines, the cooler sites around Cividale del Friuli yield particularly aromatic and elegant white wines. This diversity defines the winery’s unique style.
The winery is particularly well-known for its consistent promotion of indigenous grape varieties. Ribolla Gialla, Friulano, Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso, and Schioppettino reflect the identity of Friuli and are vinified with great care. The portfolio is complemented by international grape varieties that have been perfectly adapted to the terroir.
Among the best-known wines are the Vespa Bianco, one of Friuli’s most iconic white wines; the elegant Vespa Rosso; the mineral-driven Ribolla Gialla; the classic Friulano; and the characterful Schioppettino. Each wine tells its own story and authentically captures the region’s unique characteristics in the glass.
Sustainability plays a central role at the Bastianich Winery. The vineyards are cultivated with great respect for nature. Hand-harvesting, selective picking, and meticulous processing in the cellar ensure that only the best grapes make their way into the bottle. The goal is not to alter the wine, but to express the character of the grape variety and the terroir as authentically as possible.
